The Young Theatre

The Young Theatre (YT) was originally created in North Harrow in the mid 1960s, and in early 1971, a new sister group was created in Beaconsfield, meeting and performing at The Burnham Hall. Shortly after, it moved to The Curzon Centre as one of its resident groups. It has met regularly there for over 40 years, putting on numerous productions over that time. Due to scheduling issues, YT has also had to be slightly nomadic in performance venues and have also performed at all the same venues (except Burkes Hall that was demolished over 45 years ago).

YT’s core ages are 10 years old to 19 years old and they have produced plays suitable for the lower age range whilst also tackling Shakespeare, Pinter and Wilde to name three from the vast array of writers whose work has been produced by this group. YT also introduces its members to musicals and members will often become the orchestra during these productions.

Young Theatre produces anything between three and eight productions a year. There is often a social/fund raiser in October/November, a Christmas production in late December or early January (over the school holidays or start of January term), an Easter production, again during the holidays or start or end of the adjoining terms and then sometimes a July production (before the schools break up).

Rehearsals

YT has called The Curzon Centre its home for many years and has full access to that venue almost exclusively every Sunday afternoon for 52 weeks a year. This is particularly useful as they can often be rehearsing two or three plays simultaneously.
