the Chiltern Shakespeare CompanyIn 1986, Michael and Aviva Wiseman who were members, founders or supporters of all the other groups in Beaconsfield, wished to start focusing on producing the works of William Shakespeare. This led them and a group of like minded individuals to form the Chiltern Shakespeare Company (CSC). Initially CSC performed in the school hall of Oakdene School in Beaconsfield (it closed in the late 1980s/early 1990s and is now a housing development off Wilton Road in Beaconsfield), performing a summer and winter production.
Since the closure of Oakdene, CSC has generally only produced a single production per year, however they have said they would consider reintroducing a winter production to support a community theatre.
In 1989 CSC started its ongoing relationship with Hall Barn and now annually produces a two week Shakespeare production in the grounds of Hall Barn.
CSC has produced many of Shakespeare’s comedies and a number of the tragedies whilst also producing plays inspired by Shakespeare or historical aspect of the United Kingdom.
CSC produces one play over a two week period in June, as an outdoor production.
CSC aims to introduce Shakespeare to those not overly familiar to it. With that aim, children are actively encouraged to become involved in their productions. Last year a number of children assisted the Witches in Macbeth and this year there will again be children appearing in various scenes. The cast age range in 2013 will be under 10 through to over 90.
RehearsalsCSC originally started rehearsing at Oakdene School, but following its closure, split its rehearsals between The Wooburn Working Men’s Club and High March School. Following recent problems with the Working Men’s Club, they have used the halls of High March School.
Their rehearsals are generally Mondays and Wednesdays with on site rehearsals at Hall Barn on Sunday afternoons in May and June.
